The Renewable Energy for Rural Livelihood (RERL) is a joint programme of the Government of Nepal / Alternative Energy Promotion Centre (GoN/AEPC) and UNDP. In continuation to UNDP's support to the energy sector and UN's commitment towards ensuring universal access to modern energy services, UNDP Nepal as well as the GON/AEPC has agreed to extend the partnership in this sector to scale up energy access with decentralized energy systems for better linkages with the enterprise development. The RERL overall programme is designed for 5 years and the initial phase being planned for 2 years (April 2011- December 2012). The objective of RERL is to contribute to economic, environmental and social benefits of the rural people by removing barriers that have hindered the wider use of renewable energy resources in rural Nepal.
