Position Title: NURSE

GENERAL FUNCTIONS:
Under the overall supervision of the Health Assessment Processing Officer (HAPO) and direst supervision of Deputy Head Nurse, with the guidance from the Chief Migration Health Physician (CMHP) and Migration Health Physician for technical matters and the Chief of Mission Nepal, for administrative matters, the successful candidate will be responsible for providing support the Resettlement Health Assessment Programmes through activities, related to nursing, laboratory testing, administration of treatment and prevention, and clerking. In particular, she/he will:
MAJOR DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Assist HAPO and Deputy Head Nurses in organizing the activities related to migration medical assessment.
- Obtain blood, urine, sputum and other specimens for laboratory testing.
- Perform rapid laboratory tests, including but not limited to dipstick urinalysis, pregnancy tests, glucometry, rapid malaria tests and other tests as necessary.
- Administer and read tuberculin skin test.
- Administer vaccinations.
- Administer treatment for tuberculosis, syphilis, malaria, intestinal parasites and others as may be requested by the CMHP/Deputy MHP/HAPO/Deputy Head Nurse. Manage and report adverse effects. Maintain relevant records.
- Assist Migration Health Physicians (MHPs) in medical examination, including collecting medical history,checking vital signs, weigh, height and visual acuity.
- Perform identification of the migrants coming for health assessments.
- Assist in management of medical documents of and filing process.
- Provide HIV pre- counseling before medical screening and post counseling if needed.
- Provide TB education to the TB patients and family members.
- Monitor and implement follow up procedures for the medical hold cases
- Assist Deputy Head Nurse to control inventory and supply of medications, vaccines and others.
- Participate in the surveillance/ infection control if required.
- Liaise with internal and external partners, if requested.
- Such other duties as may be assigned by the supervisors.
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS AND COMPETENCIES:
- Bachelor’s degree in Nursing.
- Valid license to practice medicine (nursing) in Nepal.
- Minimum five years of experience.
- Experience in clinical practice; excellent technical skills, including phlebotomy. Compassionate attitude to the patients. Good bedside manners.
- Good command of spoken and written English. Fluency in Nepalese.
- Computer literacy.
- Willingness and ability to work in difficult conditions.
- Cultural and gender sensitivity: ability to work with the colleagues with different cultural backgrounds.
For Laboratory Technician

GENERAL FUNCTIONS:
Under the overall supervision of Chief Migration Health Physician and direct supervision of Laboratory Officer and Chief of Mission for administrative matter, the incumbent will assist in providing laboratory services for the Medical Processing Unit. After being trained by Laboratory Officer, the incumbent will be assigned the following duties and responsibilities:
MAJOR DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Assist in collection of blood, sputum and urine specimens.
- Assist in the processing of blood, sputum, and urine specimens for testing concerning refugee/migrant health assessment.
- Ensure that the quality assurance and control measures for all testing in laboratory are undertaken and recorded.
- Ensure that the laboratory machines and instruments are undertaken properly maintenance and calibration.
- Liaise with colleagues in the Medical Processing Unit with regard to the collection of specimens and testing result is reported in a timely manner.
- Assist with other pathology testing that may be required for the movement of refugees/migrants.
- Prepare specimens and arrange transport for follow up testing as required.
- Liaise with the laboratory service providers in order to proceed with the performance of laboratory testing in various locations in Nepal.
- Liaise with the laboratory service providers in Nepal to ensure that specimen testing meet the requirements set by IOM and CDC USA.
- Perform such other duties as may be required.
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS AND COMPETENCIES:
- Secondary education in Medical Laboratory Techniques, to include experience in Tuberculosis laboratories.
- Experience in HIV and Syphilis serology testing desirable.
- Ability to work independently and analytically under time constraints.
- Capacity to work effectively and harmoniously with colleagues from varied professional and culture backgrounds.
- Ability and willingness to working difficult areas/situations and conditions.
- Fluent in Nepali and English for technical communications; capacity to draft clearly and concisely in English asset.
For Laboratory Assistant

Position Title: Laboratory Assistant
Classification: Grade - 3

GENERAL FUNCTIONS:
Under the overall supervision of Chief Migration Health Physician and direct supervision of the Laboratory Coordinator and Laboratory Officer for technical issues and the Chief of Mission, Nepal for administrative matters, the incumbent will work in close coordination with other members of the MHD team. After training by the IOM Laboratory Coordinator and Laboratory Officer the incumbent will have the following duties and responsibilities:
MAJOR DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Conduct laboratory services in support of laboratory testing and assist the technicians.
- Collect sputum specimen in accordance with IOM requirements.
- Liaise with the IOM Migration Health Services’ Team on the collection, preparation and transport of specimens.
- Assist the laboratory technicians in their duties in testing pathology specimens.
- Strictly follow all safety guidelines and instructions.
- Liaise with the laboratory service staff in order to ensure that quality assurance measures are taken for the collection of all specimens according to IOM guidelines.
- Assist in the sterilization processes for the laboratory reagents and waste.
- Assist in the general timely work-flow of the processing of laboratory specimens.
- Assist with other pathology testing that may be required for the movement of refugees from Damak to US.
- Other duties as required by the senior laboratory technician.
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS AND COMPETENCIES:
- Secondary education is required, preferably in Biology.
- Fluent in Nepali and English for technical communications.
- Team-work oriented with capacity to work independently.
- Basic computer knowledge.
