Career Opportunities in Heifer International Nepal

Heifer International Nepal (HPIN), a non-profit, humanitarian organization dedicated to ending hunger and poverty and caring for earth by providing livestock, education and other resources to help poor families become self-reliant, is seeking qualified Nepali citizens for its following projects: 

Evaluating the Welfare Impacts of a Livestock Transfer Program in Nepal Project
1. Project Coordinator-1 (based in Kathmandu and require frequent field visits) 
2. Program Officers- 3 (one each based in Pokhara/Chitwan/Janakpur)
3. Driver-1 (based in Kathmandu and require frequent field visits) 

B: Kisankalagi Unnat Biu-bijan Karyakram (KUBK)
1. Goat Development Specialist -1 (based in Kathmandu and require frequent field visits) 


Application Deadline: 10 July 2014

A: 'Evaluating the Welfare Impacts of a Livestock Transfer Program in Nepal', is a research seeking to disentangle the importance of physical (livestock) assets relative to human and social capital to increase resiliency and improve nutritional and economic outcomes. The Heifer's operation will serve as a research site. 
1. Project Coordinator-1 (based in Kathmandu and require frequent field visits) 
Major responsibilities of this position include: 
• Lead and manage the project for achieving its objectives/outcomes. 
• Responsible for planning and managing project budget and activities. 
• Provide support for capacity building of project partners and project staff. 
• Coordinate/develop good working relationship with collaborators, line agencies and the research team to for smooth implementation of the project. 
• Responsible for prepare periodic reports required by all stakeholders. 

Qualifications required: 
A Master's Degree or equivalent is required preferably in Agriculture/Veterinary/Animal Science or Social Science, plus 5 years experience; other job related education and/or experience may be substituted for all or part of these requirements. 

2. Program Officers- 3 (one each based in Pokhara/Chitwan/Janakpur)
Major responsibilities of this position include: 
• Facilitate project implementation and guide project partners to increase effectiveness of the projects. 
• Responsible for monitoring and supervision of projects.
• Responsible for capacity building of project partners, including training and backstopping. 
• Coordinate/Develop good working relations with line agencies and other development organization to strengthen project activities. 

Qualifications required: 
A minimum of Bachelor degree, plus three years' experience in related field is required; other job related education and/or experience may be substituted for all or part of these requirements. 

3. Driver-1 (based in Kathmandu and require frequent field visits) 
Major responsibilities of this position include: 
• Drive vehicles safely. 
• Maintain vehicle log-book up-to-date. 
• Day-to-day checking of vehicle and carry out necessary repair & maintenance of the vehicle.
• Take good care and safety of Heifer staff and other passengers. 
• Assist in office logistics. 

Qualifications required: 
High school education, plus 3 years experience in driving, must have valid driving license, mechanical skills for vehicle maintenance and experience in long distance driving will be an advantage. 

B: Kisankalagi Unnat Biu-bijan Karyakram (KUBK) is a Nepal Government Project targeted to support accelerated agricultural growth in 6 districts of western and mid-western regions. HPIN is responsible for providing technical assistance and implementation of Improving goat productivity sub component of the project. 

1. Goat Development Specialist -1 (based in Kathmandu and require frequent field visits) 
Major Roles and Responsibilities 
• Liaise with KUBK project management team and other stakeholders to facilitate implementation of goat productivity improvement sub-component. 
• Prepare HPIN part of annual work plan and budget. 
• Capacity building of farmer/project staff on improved goat keeping including improving genetic merit. 
• Promote extensive production of forage and fodder and ensure sufficiency for stall feeding. 
• Prepare Periodic reports required by all stakeholders. 

Education and/or Experience: 
A minimum of Bachelor's Degree or equivalent preferably in Veterinary/Animal Science or Agriculture with major in Animal Science, plus 5 years experience; other job related education and/or experience may be substituted for all of part of these basic requirements.
