Governance Advisor Vacancy - Royal Norwegian Embassy


The Royal Norwegian Embassy has a vacant position for a Governance Advisor. Good governance is one of the main areas of the development cooperation between Nepal and Norway. The focus is to support democratic institutions, local governance, transitional justice, rule of law including the efforts against corruption. Norway aims at assisting Nepal in reaching its objectives of sustainable peace, reducing poverty and building an inclusive Nepal based on democratic principles, human rights and social and economic equity.

Main duties and responsibilities:
• Develop and maintain a constructive dialogue and network with national stakeholders and donors
• Prepare sector analysis, relevant reports and analysis for the Embassy
• Work with government and other development partners to improve program delivery and results reporting on governance projects and programs
• Facilitate development of new programs/projects in dialogue with partners in compliance with grant management rules (prepare agreements, decision documents, terms of reference for appraisals, etc)
• Undertake follow-up and quality control of ongoing programs (assess progress/finacial reports and work plans, participate in annual meeting, reviews, etc.)

Qualifications/skills required:
• A university degree, preferably a Master's degree, in a social science subjects relevant to development cooperation in support of good governance and democratic institutions.
• At least five years relevant working experience.
• Experience with planning, financial and project management andimplementation of development cooperation projects is an advantage.
• Excellent spoken and written Nepali and English as well as good computer skills.
• Strong networking skills and ability to work in close collaboration with representatives from other development partners (donor agencies). Good communication and inter-personal skills.

The duration of the assignment is from June 1st, 2012. The first 6 months are probation. Short-listed candidates will be called in for an interview, including a written test. Salaries and benefits are competitive at national level and commensurate with experience and qualifications.
