Job Vacancy - International Organization for Migration (a leading inter-governmental organization)

With 122 member states, a further 18 states holding observer status and offices in over 100 countries, IOM is dedicated to promoting humane and orderly migration for the benefit of all. It does so by providing services and advice to governments and migrants. 

IOM works to help ensure the orderly and humane management of migration, to promote international cooperation on migration issues, to assist in the search for practical solutions to migration problems and to provide humanitarian assistance to migrants in need, including refugees and internally displaced people. 

The International Organization for Migration is seeking qualified Nepali Nationals for the following position based in Damak. 

Position Title: Assistant Cultural Orientation Coordinator

Type of contract: Special, six months with possibility of extension

General functions: 

Under the overall supervision of the RSC Manager and under the direct supervision of the Cultural Orientation Coordinator, the successful candidate will be responsible and accountable for all activities related to cultural orientation in Damak and peripherally provide curriculum development and training delivery support to the CO staff at the Transit Centre in Kathmandu. 

Major Role and Responsibilities: 

1. In the absence of the CO Coordinator, function as Head of Unit. 
2. Maintain through knowledge of the CO curriculum, including core content for the 3 principal resettlement 
Countries, with specific focus on the United States CO. 
3. Develop new curricula, lesson plans, and training materials in accordance with CO curriculum objectives for Nepal and the region (India, Pakistan, Sri Lanka and Afghanistan) 
4. Create and refine CO curricula for the Kathmandu Transit Center in cooperation with the Transit Centre Sr. Trainer. 
5. Directly supervise CO Trainers and provide guidance and concrete feedback. 
6. Identify and implement, with the CO Coordinator, professional development activities and training of trainers for the CO unit. 
7. In cooperation with the Damak Senior Trainer, train CO trainers in the use of new lessons, and provide support to the Senior Trainer to conduct classroom observations and provide feedback to trainers. 
8. Maintain updated CO statistics and perform quality control to ensure accurate reporting. 
9. Compile information and produce content to be shared in reports, on the IOM ToT wiki and for the CAL Listserv. 
10. Maintain current understanding of U.S. resettlement realities by liaising with the Center for Applied Linguistics (CAL), domestic resettlement offices, and other to ensure CO content is accurate and meets the needs and interests of specific refugee caseloads. 
11. Act as host / guide to visitors and provide interpretation / translation as needed for functionaries and officials 
12. Engage in self-directed study for professional development, including reading resettlement updates, language-tutorials, attending CO-related workshops or seminars, etc. 
13. Travel to the Kathmandu Transit Center and within the region as required and determined by the Coordinator. 
14. Actively engage with supervisors and managers to improve the supervisory capacity within RSC South Asia. 
15. Adhere to the USRAP Code of Conduct. 
16. Perform such other duties as may be assigned. 

Desired Qualifications and Competencies: 

Bachelor’s degree in social sciences or related field. 
Minimum 6 years of relevant experience. 
Excellent interpersonal skills and ability to work effectively. 
Result driven, ability to work under pressure and to meet deadlines. 
Ability to perform effectively in a culturally diverse work environment. 
Excellent communication skills in Nepali and English (verbal and written). 
Excellent Computer skills (MS applications).
