Job Vacancy - South Asian Network for Development and Environmental Economics (SANDEE)

The South Asian Network for Development and Environmental Economics (SANDEE) is a network that brings together analysts from across South Asia to address environment and development problems from the region. SANDEE’s mission is to strengthen the capacity of individuals and institutions to undertake research on the inter-linkages among economic development, poverty, and environmental change and to disseminate practical information that can be applied to development policies. SANDEE provides research grants, undertakes training activities, and disseminates practical information on environment and development issues. SANDEE is hosted by ICIMOD in Kathmandu, Nepal and operates in seven countries   " Bangladesh, Bhutan, India, Nepal, Maldives, Pakistan, and Sri Lanka. 

SANDEE is looking for a dynamic multi-tasker to help manage SANDEE’s grants programme, provide administrative support to SANDEE’s activities, and support the communication of SANDEE’s research results.

Educational Description:
University degree in economics, business administration, management, or equivalent.

Job Specification:
- Minimum of five years of experience in coordinating programmes with the ability to make decisions independently.
- Candidates with experience in office administration, basic finance, and organizing travel and workshops will be preferred.
- IT knowledge, web-page management or desk-top publishing skills, as well as experience proofreading, copy-editing, and with web-based communication will be an added advantage.
- Prepared to travel and organize workshops in other countries in South Asia.

Job Description:

Ensuring the efficient running of the research grant programmes:
- Managing research grant cycles from grant inception to closure, including advertising of guidelines, communications, and follow-up;
- Assisting the Programme Director and Environmental Economist in regular communications with researchers and advisors related to SANDEE grants;
- Organizing regular research and training workshops, including planning and follow-up
- Managing the research peer-review process;
- Ensuring immediate follow-up on financial transactions with resource people, research associates, and vendors;
- Maintaining various research-related databases.

Enable the development and communication of SANDEE research results and activities:
- Copy-editing of publications (e.g., reports, papers, articles, monographs, information sheets, posters) for correctness, consistency, and adherence to SANDEE style guidelines with a strong attention to detail; the  Programme Associate will be expected to rewrite and customize the materials to suit the audience as necessary;
- Oversee the publication of working papers and policy briefs by liaising between the Secretariat staff, editors, researchers, advisors, and peer reviewers;
- Manage the newsletter and annual report process. Work with researchers to obtain suitable graphics/photos and desktop publishers to ensure the publication of SANDEE newsletters, annual report, brochures, etc.
- Proofreading of publications and information materials after layout;
- Working collaboratively with other team members to manage and update the SANDEE website;
- Develop innovative ideas for communicating SANDEE activities through multiple media.

Facilitate the efficient operation of SANDEE through general administrative support
- Manage day-to-day office activities and requirements;
- Coordinate SANDEE staff retreats;
- Work with the Programme Director on SANDEE Board and donor issues, including annual reporting, strategic planning, etc.
- Identify all Secretariat-related deadlines and ensure that these deadlines are met;
- Support the Programme Director and SANDEE team on special projects and liaise with ICIMOD and the Finance Department.

Other Specific Requirements:

Duration: 3 years, preferably from 1 January 2013, of which the first three months are probation, with a possibility of extension subject to future funding levels.

Remuneration:
Remuneration will be commensurate with experience and qualificationas per the rules of ICIMOD. Salaries and benefits of ICIMOD are competitive compared to other regional organizations.
