Job Vacancy - Mercy Corps (an International Development Organization)



Mercy Corps is an international development organization that works in 40 countries across the globe in disaster response and preparedness, peace building, civil society strengthening, and economic development (www.mercycorps.org). Mercy Corps works in Nepal to strengthen protect and expand access to productive livelihoods for the poor. Mercy Corps began operations in Nepal in 2005, and since then has implemented projects in the sectors of economic and food security; climate, natural resource and disaster risk management; youth engagement; with the inclusion of women and disadvantaged groups as important cross-cutting themes throughout each intervention area .

Building Resiliency through an Integrated Disaster Risk Reduction Model (BRIDRR) is 3-year program with the goal to develop and implement a model for integrated disaster risk reduction (DRR) and economic development activities, building sustained and market-driven approaches to DRR that increase resiliency to multiple disasters. Activities initiated at the community and household levels will be those that both mitigate disaster risks and increase income levels. The program will reinforce new or improved economic opportunities by enabling communities and households to access markets for inputs and sales of high-demand/ high-value commodities.

Mercy Corps Nepal invites applications from interested candidates for the following positions:

1. Project Manager
No. of vacancy: 1
Job Location: Kathmandu based position with frequent travel to the field (may require more than 50% of field travel)

2. Agriculture and Market Development Advisor (AMDA)
No. of vacancy: 1
Job Location: Dhangadi based with frequent travel to project districts.

3. Monitoring and Evaluation Officer
No. of vacancy: 1
Job Location: Dhangadi based with frequent travel to project districts.

4. Project Officers
No. of vacancies: 3
Job Location: Kailali, Kanchanpur, Dadeldhura and Baitadi

For Project Manager
The Project Manager will assume overall responsibility for the management and implementation of the program in Nepal. S/he must be a dynamic and effective manager who has a sound understanding of both disaster risk reduction and market-driven programming (at a senior level); will be responsible to generate high quality outputs and results; and, will have strong stakeholder management, team management, communication, and representation skills.

KNOWLEDGE AND EXPERIENCE:

MA/S or equivalent in, management, social sciences, international development or other relevant field.
7-10 years of experience in DRR, at least 5 of which are at management level required;
Experience working in market-driven / economic development related programming highly desirable.
Strong written and oral communication skills in English required, including report development, writing and editing.

For Agriculture and Market Development Advisor (AMDA)
The candidate should have a sound knowledge of prospective agriculture value chains and market development approaches. The AMDA will work directly with the Project Manager to identify and integrate sustainable livelihood practices in our disaster risk reduction and preparedness works. The candidate should have knowledge of the Far Western terai and hill districts.

KNOWLEDGE AND EXPERIENCE:

MBA/MA/S or equivalent in, management, social sciences, international development or other relevant field.
5-7years of experience in agriculture value chains;
Experience working in market-driven / economic development related programming highly desirable.
Strong written and oral communication skills in English required, including report development.

For Monitoring and Evaluation Officer 
The Monitoring and Evaluation Officer will be directly responsible for developing and implementing project specific Monitoring and Evaluation (M&E) processes and events including field surveys, group discussions, data management and communication. The Monitoring Officer will work closely with various stakeholders and beneficiaries and will ensure coordination at the community as well as at the market level.

KNOWLEDGE AND EXPERIENCE:

Minimum Bachelors degree in Natural Resource Management /Agriculture/Forestry/Science/Development Studies.
At least three years of work experience in design and/or implementing M&E processes in natural disaster risk reduction, natural resource management or livelihoods improvement related programs.
Strong written and oral communication skills in both English and Nepali required, including report development, writing and editing.

For Project Officers 
The Project Officer will be directly responsible for facilitating, implementing and monitoring effective agriculture value chain interventions, and for supporting interventions that integrate disaster risk reduction practices in their District of responsibility. The Project Officer will work closely with various stakeholders and beneficiaries and will ensure coordination at the community as well as at the market level.

KNOWLEDGE AND EXPERIENCE:

Bachelor’s degree in agriculture sciences, agri-business, economics, social sciences.
At least 2-3 years of experience in DRR, agricultural livelihoods, value chain development programs.
